The 246th BN had over 30 cadets attend Summer Encampment last June. Summer Encampment is a 10-14 day program open to cadets statewide in 4th – 12th grades. The first three days of camp are dedicated to leadership development while during the final seven days cadets have the opportunity to focus on specific learning. GHS cadets enrolled in the Drill Instructor Unit, Medic Unit, Drone Unit, Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Marksmanship Unit, Drill & Ceremony, Officer Candidate School, Law Enforcement Unit, mountaineering Unit, survival Unit, and 10th BDE Staff.
GREENFIELD, CA, September 25, 2025, the 246th Battalion of the California Cadet Corps of Greenfield High School had thirty-five cadets attend the Fall Bivouac over the course of five days and work to earn their ribbon.
The cadets learned basic field skills, such as fire safety and building, field hygiene and knife safety. Some of them also learned to fish and went kayaking. All cadets also completed a 10-mile hike reaching 7,500 feet of altitude.
The Bivouacs are a challenging Army-style trip where cadets learn skills not easily taught in normal classroom settings. The Bivouacs also provide field leadership opportunities for cadets. The cadets also stretch their personal capabilities.
The next bivouac will be during the Spring of 2026 It will be open to all cadets though spots are limited. Cadets interested in attending the next bivouac are encouraged to keep grades up.
GREENFIELD, CA, July 29, 2025, the 246th Battalion of the California Cadet Corps of Greenfield High School had 36 cadets including three King City cadets that attended leadership training. There were three Leadership Schools: Officer Candidate School (OCS), Intermediate and Advanced Leadership Academies where cadets learned better communication skills, planning events, maintaining morale, and close order drill. The three leadership courses helped cadets grow as leaders. At OCS cadets learned how to be a cadet officer, with emphasis on the CACC Core Values and Warrior Ethos, close order drill, CACC eleven Leadership Principles, CACC leaders code, Officership and cadets attended a promotion board in the hopes to promote to the next rank. During the Intermediate and Advanced Leadership Academies, cadets practiced how to effectively communicate, studied company formation, planned lessons for first year cadets and worked with their company leadership to develop team loyalty and began planning their first events. Overall, the Leadership Schools are valuable training for preparing cadet leaders for their roles and responsibilities for the coming year and their future lives.
At the 2025 Summer Encampment Pass in Review, the 246th's Battalion Commander C/LTC Diego Nunez was appointed to the position of the 10th BDE Commander. As 10th BDE Commander, C/LTC Nunez will lead nearly 10,000 cadets statewide.
"In the California Cadet Corps I’m serving in 2 positions at the same time; I’m currently serving as the Battalion Commander for the 246th BN, 12th BDE Greenfield High School, As well as serving at the state level as the 10th BDE Commander. My job in both places is to provide a mission, and ensure my subordinates plan and execute that mission. I am responsible for everything that the battalion or 10th BDE does or fails to do. I determine the objectives, while providing mentorship and counseling to subordinates.
My objective is to influence others to become a better version of themselves, while helping them grow their leadership skills and critical thinking." (C/LTC Nunez, Diego)
